Is Tombstone AZ a real town, or is it a movie set?

Tombstone is a small town of approximately 1,600+ residents that was once called Goose Flats. The town is surrounded by many different mountain ranges to include the Sierra and Dragoon Mountains. In 1962, the Department of the Interior designated Tombstone a registered historical landmark and a restoration zone was established and a commission for the preservation of its landmarks. Tourism is the mainstay of the economy. The mild year-round climate and low humidity make Tombstone an attractive place for retirement.

What days is Tombstone open? Is it only open on the weekends?

The restaurants, shops, museums, and attractions are usually open 7 days a week. Our business owners do set their own hours, to include the days they are open and closed. If there is something specific, like a shop or an attraction, please contact that business directly to ensure they will be open during your visit.

Tombstone is a living community. Some of our residents can trace their family back to Tombstone's beginning. Tourism is the mainstay of the economy. Our business owners keep tourist friendly hours - usually opening between 9-10 a.m. and closing between 5-6 p.m. Many of our saloons, restaurants and ghost hunting tours stay open well into the evening.

Ticket prices are set by the individual business owners of the various attractions. Prices can range from $5.00 to $15 per person.

What is the best time of year to enjoy ALL of Tombstone AZ?

Tombstone's weather is surprisingly mild. Although temperatures do climb into the lower nineties in the summer, evenings are pleasantly cool. Winter, fall, and spring are all exceptionally mild with clear skies, pleasant days and nights that rarely freeze. Visitors can expect sunny days year round.

Are there better days than others to visit Tombstone?

Weekdays are great.... less crowded. Weekends usually there will be more visitors.

How much time should I plan on spending in Tombstone?

Tombstone is fill with old west history. The length of time depends on your willingness to explore, see, and learn about everything Tombstone, AZ. Many people come for a couple of days, and stay in one of our local lodging (hotels, B&B, cabins, guest ranch).

Are dogs allowed in Tombstone?

Tombstone is a dog friendly town. Several of our shop owners put out water dishes for our four legged guests, and a few of our restaurants have patios that are Dog Friendly.

Tucson International Airport (TIA) is about 75 miles away from Tombstone. Plan on about 1 1/2 hours of travel time. Sky Harbor International Airport (Phoenix) is about 180 miles away from Tombstone. Plan on about 3 hours of travel time.

Yes! Absolutely! We have a couple of costume shops in town just for that very purpose.

Can I carry a replica sidearm (gun) or rifle?

Arizona is an open carry state and it is legal to carry firearms in Tombstone, replica or not.

Do any places offer senior or military discounts?

Yes, many of our businesses offer discounts. Ask at each place you purchase tickets.

Is there a place to rent a wheelchair or motorized scooter?

There isn’t a place in Tombstone AZ to rent a mobility scooter. It would be possible though to rent in Sierra Vista, Bisbee or Tucson to use in Tombstone.

Can I use my mobility scooter to get around in Tombstone?

Yes – the walk ways are flat and firm. Allen street is blocked off to vehicles and you can use the scooter on the street – going back and forth around Allen Street. The only place that you may have a challenge is BootHill Graveyard – it is relatively level ground. Some of the shops do have a small raised entrance threshold. Scooters and wheel chairs have easily navigate these.

Where is Boot Hill?

Boothill Graveyard is a small graveyard of at least 250 interments located in Tombstone, Cochise County, Arizona. Also known as the "Old City Cemetery", the graveyard was used after 1883 only to bury outlaws and a few others.

What time is it in Arizona?

Arizona is in the Mountain Standard Time zone. With the exception of the Navajo Nation in the northeast corner of the state, Arizona does not observe Daylight Saving Time.

What are your laws regarding seat belts and child seats/restraints?

Arizona law requires that each front seat occupant must have the lap and shoulder belt properly adjusted and fastened while the vehicle is in motion. Children under 5 years of age must be properly secured in a child restraint device that meets federal standards.

What are your laws regarding alcoholic beverages?

Arizona law prohibits anyone younger than age 21 from purchasing or consuming alcoholic beverages. Liquor is not sold between 2 a.m. and 6 a.m. Monday-Saturday and between 2 a.m. and 10 a.m. on Sundays. It is against the law to drink in a motor vehicle or from the original container in public places.
