The Arizona Rangers Tombstone Company is a uniformed, law enforcement auxiliary with a rich history of supporting the historic town of Tombstone, Arizona- The Town too Tough to Die.
The official Arizona Rangers organization statewide provides law enforcement assistance to any federal, state, and local law enforcement agencies within the State of Arizona.
We also provide security services for community and civic organizations as well as support for youth and youth organizations within Arizona.
The Tombstone Rangers supplement the Tombstone Marshal’s Office with foot, motor, and bicycle patrols. The Arizona Rangers have a long history of upholding the U.S. and Arizona Constitutions. With roots dating back to 1901, the Arizona Rangers played a key role in the settlement of Arizona by eliminating cattle rustling, illegal activity and general crime.
All Arizona Rangers undergo a state and national background check and investigation, must hold a current Arizona Concealed Weapon (CCW) Permit and complete the Arizona Ranger Training Academy (ARTA).
Rangers are certified to carry collapsible batons, OC spray, and meet Arizona POST qualification standards in firearms. They also receive Arizona POST training in handcuffing and defensive tactics.
Arizona Rangers may undertake specialized training by and for an agency that requires special duty assistance for which that specific training is given. Many Arizona Rangers have previous law enforcement and/or military experience.
Members of the Tombstone Company are assigned to the mounted unit, which trains on a regular basis in law enforcement skills from horseback. You might see them on occassion!
The horse is one of law enforcement’s most versatile resource. The horses are a magnet that draw crowds everywhere they go.
People love to meet and greet not only these beautiful equines, but the Rangers that also ride them. This adds a great public relations dimension to our auxiliary law enforcement efforts here in Tombstone.
The Tombstone Company's mounted Rangers can see all the way down the street, from 6th Street to 3rd Street. That’s a real advantage over a foot patrol on the boardwalk, or motorized patrol that is not allowed on Allen Street.
Routine horse patrol usually involves two horses and their riders. Regardless of the activity, whether it is community policing, crowd control, or search and rescue operations mounted units are an integral part of the town of Tombstone's law enforcement efforts.
The history of the Arizona Rangers is one of integrity, pride, and unequaled law enforcement service. Our long commitment to the history of Arizona is built upon the dedication of men and women who, over the decades, committed themselves to a life of public service.
No matter how distant, how difficult, or how dangerous, the Arizona Rangers have always answered the call for duty.
Past and present, the dedicated, unselfish, and honorable Arizona Rangers have proven to be a valuable and important part of Arizona’s historical heritage and modern-day culture alike.
Few but proud, then and now!
